What does it mean to show up for your community?

Sometimes—and especially this time of year—it’s sitting in the bleachers and cheering as students step into their futures. Sometimes it’s giving an hour and a pint of blood that could make all the difference for a neighbor in need. And sometimes it’s meeting on a trail with a trash bag and the determination to leave our green spaces better than we found them.

These aren’t small gestures—they’re the fabric of what makes Providence District and Fairfax County a place people are proud to call home. This summer is full of opportunities to show up, and I hope to see you at all of them!

Did you know someone needs blood in the United States every 2 seconds? Each donation can save three lives. It’s critical that those who are able to donate do so. Our Blood Drive will be on June 13th from 11am to 3pm at the Jim Scott Community Center (3001 Vaden Drive).

Donations take up to an hour and ID is required to donate.

Thanks to Inova, every successful donor who gives blood at our drive will automatically be entered into the monthly prize drawing.

Nottoway Nights will be at Nottoway Park on Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30pm, starting July 2 to August 20

Arts in the Parks will be at Strawberry Park at Mosaic District Sunday mornings from 10:00am to 10:45am, starting June 28 to August 9 (skipping July 4th weekend)

Mosaic Summer Music Series will be at Strawberry Park at Mosaic District Saturday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00pm, starting June 20 to August 15 (skipping July 4th weekend)

On June 2nd, the Older Adults Committee discussed updates on key initiatives supporting older adults in Fairfax County, including the SHAPE the Future of Aging Annual Update, Goodwin Living’s StrongerMemory program, and the Consumer Protection Commission’s regional anti-scam initiative “Pause. Question. Protect.”

Mingle with fellow artists and arts practitioners at the next ArtsFairfax social hour!

Afterwards, you’re invited to catch 1st Stage’s performance of the play Indecent, starting at 7:30pm. You can join the social hour, grab a ticket to the show, or do both!

Local area performing, visual, and literary artists and arts workers are welcome. Space is limited, and registration is required. Light refreshments are included with your social hour registration, but does not include access to the performance.

Students across Fairfax County are invited to celebrate Immigrant Heritage Month by participating in our art contest! We invite youth to draw inspiration from their families or their communities to portray the colorful, diverse county we share. Students will choose one of the following prompts for their art:

Artwork is accepted in any format but needs to be scanned or photographed and submitted via our online form. One submission per student. No AI art will be considered. Three winners will be selected per category: kindergarten-2nd grade, 3rd-6th grade and 7th-12th grade. Winners will receive a prize and have their art displayed in an exhibit.
